Production<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>The laboratory of <strong>Dr. Shohei Riya<\/strong> is developing <strong>environmentally friendly technologies to recycle livestock waste<\/strong>, focusing on pig manure and urine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u25c6 Background<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Livestock manure contains high levels of <strong>ammonium and phosphate<\/strong>, which originate from imported feed. Without proper treatment, these nutrients can cause <strong>eutrophication<\/strong> in rivers and coastal areas. Current composting and wastewater treatment systems are energy\u2011intensive and cannot fully utilize the excess compost produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u25c6 Research Overview: A Circular Resource System<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Riya Lab aims to establish a <strong>circular and sustainable system<\/strong> integrating:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1) Dry Anaerobic Digestion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Pig manure and rice straw are digested to produce <strong>methane gas<\/strong> as a renewable energy source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2) Carbonization \u2192 Biochar<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The fermentation residue is carbonized at 350\u2013800\u00b0C to produce <strong>biochar<\/strong>, a porous alkaline carbon material capable of adsorbing ammonium and phosphate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3) Nutrient Recovery \u2192 Feed Rice Production<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Biochar loaded with nutrients is applied to <strong>feed rice cultivation<\/strong>, enabling fertilizer recycling and supporting <strong>domestic feed production<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4) Soil Improvement and Greenhouse Gas Reduction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Biochar can also suppress emissions of <strong>methane and nitrous oxide<\/strong> from paddy soils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This integrated approach aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reduce the environmental burden of livestock waste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Produce renewable energy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhance nutrient recycling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduce greenhouse gas emissions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support local and sustainable agriculture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#x1f3af;
