the \u201cTwo-Stage Temperature Methane Fermentation Method\u201d to Dry Methane Fermentation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am conducting research on the \u201coptimization of high-temperature dry methane fermentation.\u201d Using pig manure and rice straw as feedstock, I am investigating the temperature and reaction time in detail to maximize energy production through dry methane fermentation. Specifically, I focus on the \u201ctwo-stage temperature methane fermentation method,\u201d which accelerates the hydrolysis process at around 55\u00b0C and stabilizes the methane production process at around 37\u00b0C. I am taking on the new challenge of applying this method to dry methane fermentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my experiments, I set the conditions myself, build reactors, and operate the methane fermentation apparatus. When methane gas accumulates in the gas bag connected to the reactor, it indicates that fermentation is progressing. Observing this reaction process is fascinating. After the experiment, I analyze the fermented material and the generated gas using specialized equipment, which also helps me develop chemical analysis skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the future, I hope to work as a chemical engineer, contributing to solving problems in the field of environmental energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduate School of Engineering, Master\u2019s Program, 1st Year. Riya)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Converting Agricultural Waste Such as Livestock Manure Into Usable Methane Energy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are conducting research on the \u201cmethane fermentation\u201d of livestock manure. The aim is to develop technology that converts unused biomass, such as livestock waste, into methane that can be used as electricity and heat energy. In our experiments, we add rice straw to pig manure provided by livestock farms and test stations, and study efficient fermentation methods and fermentation conditions using our own methane fermentation apparatus. We are also engaged in research on the utilization of fermentation residues (leftovers after fermentation).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The uniqueness of this research lies in the development of the novel technology called \u201cdry methane fermentation.\u201d Unlike conventional \u201cwet methane fermentation,\u201d which requires adding water to the raw material, this method ferments a clay-like mixture of rice straw and manure. A key advantage is that the fermentation residues can be directly composted. At present, we are analyzing not only the fermentation process itself, but also raw material production, residue conversion, and crop cultivation. These studies are carried out jointly with researchers both inside and outside the university to evaluate the environmental impact and energy balance of the overall manure treatment system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a circular system using dry methane fermentation can be established, it will enable the proposal of a new livestock manure treatment method with low environmental impact.
