Ours teaches both \u2014 because the real world doesn&#8217;t respect that boundary.<\/p>\n<section>\n<h2>What is &#8220;Engineering&#8221; anyway?<\/h2>\n<p>In Japanese high schools, you learn chemistry and physics, but rarely &#8220;engineering.&#8221; Simply put: <strong>engineering is the application of science to benefit society.<\/strong> So APCE is about putting chemistry and physics to work for the world.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">Think of it as the bridge between scientific knowledge and things people actually use.<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2>Why chemistry AND physics together?<\/h2>\n<p>Look at almost anything useful in modern life, and you&#8217;ll find chemistry and physics are already inseparable:<\/p>\n<div class=\"card-grid\">\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-label\">Example<\/div>\n<div class=\"card-title\">Pharmaceuticals<\/div>\n<p>The drug molecule is chemistry. The industrial process that makes it consistently and at scale? The mechanism that converts sunlight to electricity is physics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-label\">Example<\/div>\n<div class=\"card-title\">Lithium Batteries<\/div>\n<p>Won the 2019 Nobel Chemistry Prize \u2014 yet how they store energy is physics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-label\">Example<\/div>\n<div class=\"card-title\">Blue LEDs<\/div>\n<p>Won the 2014 Nobel Physics Prize \u2014 yet the light-emitting material itself is chemistry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Nobel Prize categories themselves are blurring. This department was created precisely to train people for that blurred, exciting frontier.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2>How does it help society?<\/h2>\n<p>Consider something as simple as mixing salt into water \u2014 trivial in a cup, incredibly difficult in an industrial tank. Now try mixing something as viscous as honey (plastics manufacturing is like this). Getting a product to be <em>high-quality, uniform, and mass-produced<\/em> is an enormous engineering challenge. That&#8217;s the kind of problem this department solves.<\/p>\n<p>The same applies to climate and energy: carbon cycles through oil, biomass, and CO\u2082 \u2014 understanding that requires both chemistry and physics. So does designing better batteries, fuel cells, and emissions systems.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2>Career prospects<\/h2>\n<p>The department&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/tuat-chemphys.net\/?cat=24\"> first master&#8217;s graduates (2024)<\/a> secured positions almost entirely at major listed companies. Chemical and process engineering skills are in constant demand \u2014 any company that makes physical products at scale needs people who understand how to do it well. TUAT&#8217;s engineering faculty already has a strong employment reputation comparable to mechanical engineering programs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">Notably, some graduates received offers from both chemistry-sector <em>and<\/em> physics\/materials-sector companies \u2014 a unique flexibility from the dual-track training.<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2>Curriculum overview<\/h2>\n<p>Years 1\u20132 cover foundational chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
